ENNIS is a dynamic, original group with a unique contemporary voice flavored by deep roots and Celtic traditional Newfoundland influences. Having won multiple Music NL, East Coast Music Awards and a JUNO (Canadian Grammy) Maureen and Karen are powerful, interesting and humorous story tellers with a broad mix of Maureen's
accessible original songs and uniquely interpreted tunes and ballads.
With 7 albums (1 gold) and inclusion on countless compilation CD's (2 gold) to date, they have shared the stage and/or recorded with the Chieftains, Altan, Danu, Tommy Makem and the The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, among too many others to mention. Touring highlights include the Winnipeg Folk Festival, Stan Rogers Folk Festival, the Strawberry Music Festival (California), Merlefest (North Carolina) and the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Irish festivals. They have also played Canada Day events on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada and Trafalgar Square in London, England. They most recently finished their first tour of Ireland and performed on an Irish Festival Cruise with legendary folk singers Mary Black and the Black Family and Tommy Sands.
This year will mark the release of Ennisí sophomore release and the return to their Newfoundland inspired folk roots. Maureenís award winning song writing skills are back
crafting songs about rural places in the province and the stalwart nature of home. The songs on their upcoming release will focus on the changes that Newfoundland and
Labrador has seen over the past generations and the resilience as a people to remain amid economic and environmental challenges. No matter what, most Newfoundlanders and Labradorians would never call any other place home. The strength of any place is
in its people but that seems especially evident in the culture and people of an Island.
