Over a thirty year career, Kim Dunn has become known as a musician's musician. In addition to producing, musical directing and arranging credits, Kim is a consummate keyboard sideman who has recorded and toured with
a who's who of East coast artists including, Rita MacNeil, Bruce Guthro, Matt Minglewood, Jimmy Rankin, Lennie Gallant, David Myles, Jill Barber, Dave Gunning, and George Canyon.
But there's another side to Kim Dunn: that of a songwriter and vocalist. After playing on countless recordings of other artists, Kim finally brought his song writing and singing to the foreground with the release of his first solo project, Take This Hammer. His biggest asset has always been versatility and he has implemented this feature prominently on this self-produced debut CD, blending elements of jazz, blues, pop and folk.
Most recently, a live recording of Kim in concert at CBC’s Studio ‘H’ was featured nationally on CBC’s Canada Live, and previously on Atlantic Airwaves, and All the Best. Notably, he has been invited to take part in the Songs & Stories Showcase during Nova Scotia Music Week, November 5th, 2011, in Yarmouth, NS, and will perform his music with Symphony Nova Scotia on November 25th at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax.
In 2003 Kim received the first ever MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR East Coast Music Award, given not on the basis of votes, but rather a selective process on the part of the industry - an honour indeed to have received it in the year of its inception.
Personal highlights include having had the chance to meet and work with Alison Krauss, Peter Gzowski, Philip Glass, and performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival.
