James Hill
James HillWith his “world-class command of the instrument” (John Berger, Honolulu Star-Bulletin) and "tour de force” mix of jazz, classical and folk influences (Yvonne Zacharias, Vancouver Sun), James is has been called the "Wayne Gretzky of the ukulele" (Stuart McLean, CBC Radio).

A seasoned performer with an ever-growing fan base in North America, Asia and Europe, Hill has garnered wide acclaim for his ground-breaking approach to the chronically-underestimated ukulele. Over the course of his first three genre-defying albums, he re-wrote every rule that had previously kept the ukulele in the realm of novelty and obscurity. Then came the Canadian-Folk-Music-Award-winning True Love Don't Weep (Borealis Records), a collaboration with cellist/singer Anne Davison, that pushed the budding singer-songwriter into new territory, topped folk radio charts in North America and opened doors to festival stages across the continent.

With the release of his latest album, Man With a Love Song, Hill lets his impressive songwriting chops take centre stage. "Hill stands poised and ready," writes Giller-prize shortlisted author Leo MacKay, "take his place in the ranks of the country's very best young songwriters."
