Hooks. That is what Molly Thomason is about and nowhere is that more evident than on her new recording, Beauty Queen.
Released in early June, the album has already been nominated for two 2011 Music Nova Scotia awards: Female Artist Recording of the Year and Folk Recording of the Year. The first single All Down the Highway was #1 on the East Coast Countdown, single number two, People Lie, airing September 12, was selected for video production by the Atlantic Film Festival, and in August 2011, the song Trouble was featured in the hit TV show Degrassi in an episode of the same name.
Not afraid to experiment with a variety of musical styles, Molly has a vision for each song without regard for boundaries of genre. The result is a record with an undeniable pop sensibility that showcases a great variety of influences, from the doo-wop vibe of Shine in the Dark to the folk/jazz heart-tug of Amsterdam. The songs are intelligent and perceptive with a sophistication of lyric and melody belying her years.
Molly’s debut CD Through the Static garnered much attention including two Music Nova Scotia award nominations (New Artist and Pop/Rock Recording), a placement on TV’s Degrassi and two #1’s on the East Coast Countdown. The song “Little Bones” achieved semi finalist status in the International Songwriting Contest in 2010 as did “People Lie” (Beauty Queen) in 2011.
Molly tours at every opportunity. A confident and engaging performer, she captures the attention of her audiences whether appearing in high schools, theatres, or festival stages.
Molly Thomason’s destiny is one filled with music. It will be an exciting journey to witness.
