Breagh Mackinnon - Mentorship Artist
Breagh Mackinnon - Mentorship ArtistBreagh Mackinnon has been charming audiences across the Maritimes since releasing her debut, self-titled EP in January of 2011. Raised in a musical family, this young Cape Breton singer songwriter packages carefully crafted lyrics, smooth, satisfying vocals, and raw musical ability into her every performance.

In her first year of university, she recorded seven original tunes at Lakewind Studios and released her demo EP. The single “Heartstrings” spent eight weeks on the East Coast Countdown’s top five and has been featured on a number of Maritime radio programs including CBC’s “Atlantic Airwaves”.

Since the release, Breagh has been busy playing at numerous venues around the East Coast including the 2011 ECMA Discovery Stage, a mainstage tweener showcase at the 2011 Stan Rogers Folk Festival and a showcase spot at the Socan Songwriters Circle at the 2012 ECMAs.

Described as folk pop, Breagh’s style has been influenced by multiple genres ranging from her parents’ vinyl collection to an emerging jazz influence. Breagh’s song writing is marked by a sophisticated authenticity that was recognized by multiple-award winning songwriter Gordie Sampson who invited her along with several other young Nova Scotia writers to participate in a song writing camp in August 2011. She has since co-written with artists such as Carleton Stone, Steven MacDougall and Gordie Sampson.

Breagh is currently working on her next album to be released in the Fall of 2012. All this while attending St. Francis Xavier University as a full time Jazz Performance student.
