Betty Bonifassi
Betty BonifassiBĂ©atrice "Betty" Bonifassi (born c. 1971) is a French-born vocalist based in Montreal, Quebec. She has a deep, contralto singing voice, sometimes referred to as "masculine", which has been compared to that of Shirley Bassey. Bonifassi has performed music of many styles in both English and French -from jazz, to traditional music, to blues, to electronica. She is one of the only Quebecers to have performed at both the Oscars and the Grammys when she provided the singing voices for the title characters of the animated film Les Triplettes de Belleville. She has collaborated, performed and toured with musician DJ Champion and took part of the duo Beast. She has been intrigued and seduced by the culture of slave songs and their path for several years. They also inspired the album LOMAX, a tribute to African-American prisoners' songs in the Southern United States in the '20s in order to support and maintain the rhythm of their inhuman forced labours.
