Njacko Backo & Kalimba Kalimba
Njacko Backo & Kalimba KalimbaFor nearly three decades Njacko Backo has brought traditional African drumming, Kalimba, storytelling, dance, and grassroots wisdom to thousands of audiences and students across Africa, Europe and North America. Tagged the “King of Kalimba” and born in Bazou, Cameroon, he began drumming at age three, guided by a family with deep musical roots. His exotic, uplifting rhythms and melodies combined with a contagious spirit have credited him with the ability to engage audiences and students to become a part of the celebratory and unifying power of music so central to Backo’s work.

He has led over 1,000 workshops in Quebec alone, has recorded eight albums with his band Kalimba Kalimba, has performed for a myriad of charitable organizations such as Amnesty International, The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation and the Inner City Angels of Toronto to name a few, as well as collaborated with a long list of African and North American musicians on various albums and projects. Backos captivating and agile talent matched with his dedication to art and cultural education make him not only musician but peace advocate.
