PD Session # 4
Date: Saturday, September 25, 2021
Time: 2:15 pm – 3:45 pm
Location: Crowne Plaza -Westmoreland/Carleton Rooms

This session weaves a coherent narrative from the many important rebuilding strands competing for our attention. From the tenuous financial situation in the arts to the drive toward digital transformation, from rebuilding organizational capacity to re-engaging audiences, from innovative social development practices to equity, diversity and inclusion, from mental health to rates of pay and artists fees, from climate change to the role of touring in our national story: what are the social responsibilities of presenting organizations as we get ready to re-open fully.

Inga will break down these themes in practical terms grounded in the economic, demographic and social dynamics of Atlantic Canada. Basic questions like who do we program and who do we program for will be examined in light of a renewed awareness that we can and must do better to fully reflect our communities.

Together we will consider the implications, future directions and social responsibilities for volunteer arts organizations and professional presenting organizations in cities and small communities. Participants will have time to reflect on their own situation and contribute their experiences and ideas to this vital conversation.
