Noël Wan (she/her)

In the words of lecturer and pianist Bart van Oort, Noël Wan is “a huge talent [with] hidden power and amazing maturity.” An international prize-winning harpist, Taiwanese-American harpist Dr. Noël Wan (1994) made her international debut in 2010, performing Alberto Ginastera’s Harp Concerto with the Utrecht Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Wan is the youngest First Prize winner in the history of the Dutch Harp Festival Competition (now World Harp Competition), and has concertized across North America, Europe, and Asia as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Eslite Hall, the Muziekgebouw, the Yellow Barn Summer Music Festival, and on NPO Radio 4’s Spiegelzaal. Dr. Wan explores imaginative intersections between the harp, identity, and spaces. A boundary-pushing artist, her recent projects include new materialism and feminist phenomenology in Georges Aperghis’ Fidélité, and affect and the environment in the music of Toru Takemitsu and Zhou Long. She seeks to advocate the solo harp through programming repertoire that illuminates the diverse traditions of the instrument – such as classical, jazz, and folk music – and fostering inclusivity and mutual understanding within musical spaces.
