Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC)

The Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) is an umbrella organization that enables community arts councils and schools to tour and hold live, professional music and theatre performances, visual arts exhibitions, workshops and special events across Saskatchewan. OSAC is a Provincial Cultural Organization (PCO), funded by Saskatchewan Lotteries. A group of volunteers representing eight arts councils across the province founded OSAC in 1968. It has grown since its inception into a vital network of approximately 48 member arts councils and more than 85 school centre associate members throughout Saskatchewan. OSAC provides leadership and assists the membership to develop, promote and program the visual and/or performing arts. The strategic goals of OSAC are: Member Development, Program Development, Audience Development, Artist Development and Leadership. The OSAC annual conference, Showcase, offers three days of workshops, guest speakers, discussion forums, Contact Room, networking opportunities, silent auction and its annual general meeting. The weekend includes showcases of visual and media arts exhibitions and live performances by local, national and international performers. Artists and performers who showcase their talent at the conference are selected by juries throughout the year. In 2022, Showcase will be held in Saskatoon from October 14 – 16. The founding members, Acadian Mathieu Chouinard and Quebecois Marc-André Charron, respectively graduated from the École internationale de théâtre Jacques Lecoq (France) and the London International School of Performing Arts (UK). Known for its dynamic, physical, and exuberant baroque style, and its ability to attract talented artists from myriad cultural backgrounds, Satellite Théâtre has created eleven plays in as many years. Culminating in eleven Éloizes nominations, having won five so far.

Under the Spire Music Festival

Under the Spire Music Festival, formerly known as Indian River Festival, has been presenting the very best in classical, traditional, folk, jazz and world music in Historic St. Mary’s since 1996. An annual destination event for tourists and locals alike, it continues to facilitate restoration projects to preserve this beloved venue while maintaining a busy concert schedule from June-September each year. Over its 26 year history, the Festival has received many accolades including several Music PEI Awards for Livestream of the Year (2022) and Achievement in Classical Music (2019, 2018), the Kensington and Area Chamber of Commerce Community Impact Award, several ECMA nominations for event and venue of the year, twice named in the Globe and Mail as one of the best small summer classical music festivals in Canada, and was listed as one of the top summer classical music festival’s in Canada by CBC Music.

Writers at Woody Point

The Writers at Woody Point literary festival in Woody Point, Bonne Bay, Newfoundland had its inaugural season in 2004. The festival is organized and presented by Friends of Writers at Woody Point and, each year, has played to sold-out audiences. This year, as in the past, the event will be hosted by CBC Radio’s Shelagh Rogers, host of “The Next Chapter" a show about Canadian writing and writers. The lovely and historic western Newfoundland village of Woody Point, on the south shore of Bonne Bay, is surrounded by the breathtaking landscape of Gros Morne National Park. Writers, artists and scientists are drawn here from around the world.
