Venue Accessibility Guide

  • Entrance and lobby: The Valet Entrance off King Street is equipped with automatic doors and is wheelchair accessible. Upon entering, guests will find the reception desk directly ahead. Elevators to access guest rooms and other facilities are located to the right.
  • Washrooms: Gender neutral signage;The Delta Saint John offers accessible washroom facilities to accommodate guests with mobility needs. Public restrooms within the hotel are equipped with features such as grab bars near the toilets, with a height of approximately 33 inches (84 centimeters), and lowered sinks to ensure ease of use.
  • Parking: Accessible parking via Level 7 and 3 where patrons take elevators down to level 1 of the mall to locate the hotel lobby.The hotel offers valet parking just off the valet entrance for easier access. Guests can access the hotel directly from the parking garage via elevators, which are designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Clear signage within the garage directs guests to the hotel lobby.
  • Elevators: The hotel’s elevators are designed to accommodate guests with mobility needs, featuring door widths of 36 inches to ensure ease of access. Additionally, the property offers a well-lit path to the entrance and accessible parking spaces, including van parking, to facilitate convenient access to the hotel’s amenities.
  • Flooring: Tiled flooring in the lobby and on the mezzanine level of the hotel. The meeting spaces have carpet flooring.
  • Doors: Automatic doors entering the lobby; manual doors entering event spaces; Additionally all public areas, including the on-site restaurant, fitness center, and business center, are accessible. The indoor pool area also has an accessible entrance.

  • Entrance and lobby: Front doors: Sidewalk level, three sets of 152cm double doors, burgundy in colour, with a red brick surfaced entrance. The automatic door is located on the right hand side, with the right-most door opening when button is pressed. Door takes 5 – 10 seconds to open once button is pressed. The doors have no threshold. The automatic door button is 101 cm above floor level. The door is recessed and does not impede travel for walkers and canes. From the pull side of the door, the vestibule has a clear, level floor area of 196 cm x 200+cm, with the width between the doors being 190cm and a mat sunk in to the floor. All outer door sets open wide enough to accommodate small to medium-sized mobility aids.| Stage Door: not accessible by wheelchair, access through Main Lobby. Hallway access includes stability railing approx 77cm above the ground. The hallway will have approx 20m before a door which has 2.5m of clearance for wheelchairs and mobility aids to turn. The stage entrance is approx. 7m from the turn.
  • Washrooms: Washrooms – gender neutral: Balcony level (design: white/black tile floor with dark beige walls, white sinks and grey stalls) | Washooms – gendered: Lower Lobby, with the women’s facilities closest to the exit to the elevator on the right hand side. The women’s washroom has purple walls, white/black tile floor, with counters approx 1m high and a wheelchair accessible soap and paper towel dispensers on the counter to the right facing the bathroom door. The men’s washroom has yellow walls, black/white tile floor, and a wheelchair accessible mounted paper towel dispenser and soap. Both are outfitted with power doors, and have change tables and sanitary napkins.
  • Parking: Parking – IT: Staff/performer parking, Charlotte St access, at stage door. | Parking – General: Free – After 7:00PM – Irving Parking Lot access from Charlotte St or Princess St. and on weekends Paid – Charlotte and King St. (100 King St.) Saint John Parking Authority. There are two accessible parking spots on the left hand curb of King Square S (free after 6:00PM).
  • Elevators: Elevator is located on the left hand side of the lobby, with the button panel on the right hand side. The elevator door has clearance of 92cm and the elevator doors remain open for 7 seconds. The interior of the elevator has floor space of 140cm x 176cm. The exterior, Lower Lobby has clear floor space of 124xm x 200cm; the exterior, Balcony has clear floor space of 200cm x 200cm. The interior of the elevator has wood walls and grey tile floor, and there is a mirrored ceiling which may produce glare/visual impairment. There are handrails located at a height of 81cm, and a distance of 4.5cm from the wall.

  • Doors: No interior power doors excepting washrooms, and the doors require 45N+ of force to open in most cases. All interior doors have lever handles at a height of 91 – 112cm from the floor. The doors are 71 – 85cm, excluding hardware, when in the open wide position. Doors to balcony are burgundy. From pull side of the door, there is 231cm x 194cm of clear, level floor area; from the push side there is 14cm x 171cm. There is 71cm of clear space from the latch on either side of the door. The width of entrance to balcony is 171 cm. | Door to lobby from stage area: | Washroom doors: exterior push plate/interior pull handle 110cm from floor; the door clearance is 85cm. There is 165cm x 200+cm of clear, level floor area from the pull side, and 135cm x 200cm on the push side.
  • Ventilation: Heating and cooling is provided by air source heat pumps and water source heat pumps throughout the building. All of these units are currently installed with MERV 8 pleated filters.
    There are two natural gas condensing boilers installed as backup in case of extreme weather conditions. In those conditions the boilers would help the heat pumps keep up if needed. CO2 sensors are placed in the duct work and calculate the amount of carbon dioxide in any given space. When the ppm (parts per million) of CO2 increase, the system calls for more fresh air to be brought into the space, and to fully open the exhaust dampers. (ppm refers to the number of CO2 molecules for every million molecules of air). Ceiling mounted and stand alone HEPA filters are placed throughout the building.
  • Quiet area: Lower lobby – accessible by stairs and elevator (B – basement).
  • Low transmission area: Lower lobby – accessible by stairs and elevator (B – basement).
  • Lighting and noise level: Lobbies: Maximum 437 lux, except for where natural light. Upper lobby contains blackout curtains, and are of a medium noise level (oculus in centre of lobby can filter up noise from main floor).
  • Entrance and lobby: Wheelchair + walker accessibility with small ramp to front door. Elevator hallway is wide enough for smaller wheelchairs or mobility aids. Lobby is all one floor. Doors are all manual but can be propped open.
  • Washrooms: Gender neutral washroom downstairs with wheelchair access; gendered washrooms upstairs with wheelchair access.
  • Parking: Street parking on Princess St. Irving parking lot may be available.
  • Elevators: Elevator that can fit most wheelchairs.

  • From the Delta Hotel to Tour Starting Point: Down hill with cement sidewalk edged with brick, cross the street at St. Patrick (crosswalk with Lights), walk along the gathering place (same surface), then along boardwalk in front of Hilton (wooden) – approximately 700m.
  • Washrooms: No public washrooms are available along tour route
  • The Tour Route: There is a ramp, or 5/6 stairs down to Harbour Passage. Then it is event cement (some cracks but nothing hazardous) for the remainder. The tour will circle back to starting point. There are 2 bench areas along the route. Washrooms are closed at this time of year. The pace of the tour will be adjusted to accommodate the group. From the top of stairs, the whole walk is approx 1.4 KMs.
  • Transportation: APA will provide a shuttle for the second tour, beginning at 10:00am. We encourage people for whom this increases the accessibility of the event to sign up for this tour (Tour B).
